The previous entry with a link to Kerry's concession has the dubious distinction of being my 100th blog entry. First I held out hope a trailer full of votes would be found in Ohio. Then visions of a reformed, moderate, and uniting second term for Bush danced in my head. Bush's now famous "political captial" speech put an end to my fantastic voyage of the mind. We're back to an alternate reality where 3% margins are mandates and unity is achieved by working only with people who "share our goals".
Discouraged is the word that comes to mind. At least when the election was on I felt like I could do something, but now what? I don't know yet. In the meantime, here's a few points of interest.
Google Doubles Index
Up to 8 Billion pages. That raises my own personal Google fame to 928.
Google Fame Can Backfire
Like I said before, watch your Google-Butt. This flight attendant lost her job because her employer decided they didn't like her blog.
The Worms Keep Coming
A new variant of the MyDoom worm came on the scene this week. It exploits yet another vulnerability in Internet Explorer. This virus installs a web server on your computer then emails every address it can find on your computer, inviting the recipient to click on a link. Clicking on the link takes them to your webserver that serves up a page that exploits the vulnerability in IE to download and install the worm. All the victim sees is a blank page. This also puts sysadmins in a bind. Upgrade to SP2 or risk infection.

There are still some scenarios where Kerry can pull it off, but it's looking bleak. Several networks just called Ohio for Bush. CNN has a good breakdown of the Ohio vote.
I'm still holding out hope, but I think it's time to go to bed - any changes from here on in are going to take some time to sort out.
If nothing else, I can at least hope that the near loss will serve to let Bush know people expect more from their president.Write Comment (0 Comments) |

This election is making for very boring TV. After an initial flurry of results things have slowed down. At this rate I might run out of peanuts or fall asleep before we know who the president is.
Wang has posted his comparison so far and it does in fact look like Kerry is doing better than expected (and his model predicts Kerry the winner).
My final prediction: PA, Kerry OH, Kerry FL, Bush - President, Kerry!Write Comment (0 Comments) |

The TiVo is working overtime tonight. I'm watching ABC then flipping around the other channels (CNN, PBS, etc.). So far Wang's predictions underestimated Kerry's performance by about 3%. That's promising, but it's still early.
I'm using MediaMatters to keep an eye on the outcome. Thanks to Allen for the link.
