Oh the places you will go, the airports you will see! |

I'm on day three of trying to get to Rio. The first trip I don't
take my laptop on and all this time to use it! I'm 'blogging'
from my Blackberry today. I'll copy and paste this into mambo when I
get home (26th).
On Wednesday the flight from Miami to Rio was cancelled due to
"maintainence issues". No alternate route was available, so I
stayed home and tried Thursday. A storm brewed up over Miami, we
circled for an hour and were forced to land at Ft. Meyer to
refuel. After an hour and all the pretzels on the plane later, we
flew to Miami, landing fifteen minutes after the flight to Rio took
off.
Thankfully, a humane gate agent was waiting with a complementary hotel
room and enough vouchers to eat like a king (or at least maybe at
Burger King) for a week. By 2:30AM is was in my hotel room
munching on the sanwhich I grabbed from the only place still open at
the airport. I slept in and made it over to the airport by about
1:00PM.
Thank god they have a Starbucks.
Sometimes the human race feels like a bunch of wet rats stowed away on
a ship, climbing on top one another for the dryest, warmest spot.
Last night a fellow wayward traveler unloaded his frustration on the
shuttle bus driver to the hotel.
Other times some compassion and patience can bring dignity to the most
humble situation. Just before we got on the shuttle bus a woman
moved her luggage out of the way and gave a friendly wave to a elderly
porter piloting a cartload of luggage trolleys.
