I've been on fourteen planes in the last six weeks. Two trips to
Philadelphia and a ten day adventure to Brazil and Argentina. The
travel was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to spending a few months at
home with a fresh perspective.
Throughout all the travel, there has not been a lot of blogging, but
there has been plenty of tinkering behind the scenes. I moved over to
Mambo from postnuke (see this script for help if you're going to attempt the same), managed to scrape together the beginnings of my own template (thanks to this tutorial), and installed Gallery along with the Mambo component for it. The most visible result of all this is a new look (it's a work in progress) and the new photography section. Enjoy!
Fedora Core 4 is out. The release notes reveal some interesting new features,
including support for Xen virtualization, PHP 5, and numerous desktop
oriented improvements. Maybe it's time to test an upgrade of this
server from Core 3 to 4. I'm also tempted to try to move the system to
a Xen virtual install to make backups, upgrades, and hardware
migrations easier.
There has been a marked increase in brute force SSH login attempts since May 25th, here are some details. grep -c "sshd.*authentication failure" /var/log/messages.1 tells me there were 2302 failed logins on this server last week!
