I'm leaving tomorrow for Japan. I've always had a nerdy fascination with the country. I think it started with reading about video games that hit the Japanese market before the states in Nintendo Power magazine when I was a kid. More recently, the Ahihabara section of Tokyo has risen to a new level of nerd fame. The Washington Post calls it the Geek Ghetto. I'm planning an evening out to walk amongst my Japanese nerd bretheren.
This trip made me think about all the traveling I've done this year. Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Chicago twice. Raleigh-Durham, NC. San Diego, CA. Philadelphia, PA twice. Columbus, OH. Inianapolis, IN. Chattanooga, TN. Jackson, TN. Rio, Manaus, and the Amazon, Brazil. Iguacu, Argentina. Boston, MA. Once I get back from Japan there will be a second trip to Columbus, OH before the end of the year. Most of the travel has been accidental, weddings and the like. Still, it does create a strange sense of transency.
I'm sure the travel schedule will slow down considerably with the impending arrival. My buddy from accross the pond reports he's already sold his motorcycle after just "Baby +13".
Another side effect of the impending arrival is I often find myself wondering about two things. How will my kid perceive me and the actions and choices I have and will make? And how will I explain all the stuff about the world I wish I didn't have to explain?
