I'm back from Japan and the holidays!
Nerdy blog info
I thought I'd start off the new year by getting my blogging software up to date. Mambo is now Joomla. The upgrade path was a simple patch from mambo 4.5.1 to 4.5.2, then from 4.5.2 to 4.5.2.3 (don't forget the 4.5.2.3 security patch!), then from 4.5.2.3 to 4.5.3, and finally from mambo 4.5.3 to Joomla 1.0.5 . Ugh. Thankfully most of the steps were as simple as unpacking the patch into the site's root directory and worked without any problems. I spent more time reading upgrade instrcutions than actually upgrading.
Quick catch up
Japan is a fascinating place. Akihabarra lived up to its reputation. It's probably the only place in the world you can find street vendors selling LEDs, resistors, cables, and used laptops, just like donuts or newspapers. The bullet train is fast, but less exciting than you might expect because the ride is so smooth. And, as always, it's good to plop yourself down somewhere you are the minority, don't speak the language, and have to learn and adapt.
The stem is on the apple!
The impending arrival has been declared a boy. I have the ultrasound to prove it, but I'm sure no matter how good humored this boy turns out, he would prefer photos of his naughty bits remain offline.
