I've always found magazines a great way to quickly find out what is going on in a particular field or topic. Whenever I'm in a book store with time to kill, I like to browse magazines for various topics I'm interested in, usually computers, aquariums, or photography. Recently, I was struck by the profound difference in topics found in Linux and Windows magazines. The covers of the Windows magazines were full of stuff that makes your computer not break. The Linux magazines focused on doing tnew hings with your computer. Has the state of Windows computing really fallen so far?
I remember when using Windows was exciting and each new version offered new possibility. Now Windows itself is just a chore. Patch Windows, install anti-virus, update it, install anti-spyware, update it, reboot, do it all over again. And even when all the protections are in place you can still get hosed, it is just that much harder to get back to a working state.
