Tooling around with the camera |

I stumbled onto a good photography site, http://www.photographycorner.com/. They run a few photography contests in the forums every month, maybe I'll enter one.
I found the site while Googling around for more information about filters and when to use them and found this article. With my camera I received a three filter kit - polarizer, UV, and an FLB filter. It looks like the polarizer is the most useful. The other two do things that can be corrected for in software with digital cameras.
I tried out the polarizer at the pumpkin patch this weekend (I also took this shot which came out ok). Of course, only after reading the article did I realize that rotating the filter can lessen or strengthen the effect of the filter. Oh well, still got a few good shots.
One technique I have found valuable to learning how different settings change the picture is to take the same picture twice, once with one setting and once with another (flash on, flash off, or black and white, color). That was a little difficult with a baby in a pumpkin patch, but as I get better at knowing the camera controls I'm hoping I can switch settings to see the changes more often. I've got the control of the auto-focus point down pretty well, now I'm on to shutter speed and aperature.
