More Questionable Output from the Patent Office Print E-mail
Wednesday, 02 June 2004
McAfee appears to have been granted a patent on several techniques for identifying SPAM. Have patent examiners ever even heard of Google? I know hashing (used by Razor, Pyzor, and many others) and Bayesian (used by SpamBayes, SpamAssassin, and many others) techniques included in the patent were in use well before the patent was filled. I'm not sure what a compound filter is, but I bet it was already out there too.
