Hacks, Bribes, and Blame - Cooler heads will previal Print E-mail
Thursday, 28 October 2004
Hackers are going pro because just like SPAM, it's profitable.

Microsoft continues to flounder in fighting piracy, offering a bribe$20 worth of free photo software if you can prove you have a legit copy of windows. While some existing customers might appreciate that, people with an unlicensed version of Windows probably won't run out and buy a $199 copy of Windows XP to get photo software, they'll just pirate some photo software.

In other confusing anti-piracy news Microsoft's president Steve Ballmer thinks if PCs get cheaper, say around $100, piracy will be reduced but he's also quoted as saying that low prices aren't the answer. I really don't know what point he's trying to make. If you do, please post a comment.

Through it all, Linus stays cool.
